Gert Pettersson, bass player
A versatile musician, Gert taught himself trumpet at the age of 15 as a result of which, in 1953, he was accepted as a bandsman in the I 12 infantry regiment based in Eksjö. Following a posting in 1954 to Uppsala he switched from trumpet to tuba, later taking up the double bass, which has become his main instrument. In 1963 came another posting, to Västerås, and another change of instrument, this time the trombone. In 1975 he was appointed principal bass player of the Västerås Music Society, now the well known Västerås Sinfonietta.
Gert has played with many of Sweden’s leading jazz musicians including Bengt Hallberg, with whom he had a busy cooperation for many years, and Egil Johanssen and Lars Erstrand as a member of the Roland Jivelid All Stars. Between 1963 amd 1973 he frequently played with the bands of Ove Rönn, Sven Sjöholm, Gösta Törner, and Allan Johansson on the Swedish America Line’s ships, Kungsholm and Gripsholm.
He now plays solely with Trattbandet and Pelle Hettman’s Quartet.
